Accelerated Reader Information
-
Get started on your first quarter AR reading. The point requirements for each grade are listed on the left. AR points make up 10% of your grade each quarter so do not ignore them or wait until the last minute.
-
Do not let AR reading become stressful or scary. Talk to Mr. Wiley if you feel like you are struggling or need some help. Book reports and projects can be arranged instead of tests in certain circumstances.
-
The easiest way to reach your AR goals is to read a little everyday and read books that interest you. There are books on any subject you can imagine or think of. Find a book about a topic you enjoy. Book series are a great way to help make AR reading easy and enjoyable. Try the first book of a series to see you enjoy it and then read the sequels for you AR points the next quarter.
- Do not choose a book that is worth a large number of points but if too difficult to read. Stick within your Lexile range and with books that are at your reading level. You can search for books by Lexile range by following the link on the left.
- Students who struggle to fit reading into their lives or who are having trouble earning their AR points will be asked to complete a reading log. A reading log is a great way to hold yourself accountable for your reading and show effort to Mr. Wiley.
- Students who go above and beyond the AR point requirement will receive various reading rewards. Any students who earns 50 points or more in a quarter will earn free dress. The top three point earners in each grade will also receive a Barnes and Noble gift card. Mr. Wiley will work throughout the year to find some other rewards to give to students that work hard, show improvement, and go beyond the minimum.
